アーサー・クラインマン

Arthur Kleinman

1941年生まれ。ハーバード大学教授(the Esther and Sidney Rabb Professor)、精神科医。医療人類学の第一人者として知られる。ハーバード大学アジア・センター長。2004-2007には、ハーバード大学文化人類学部門の部門長を勤めた。著書に、Rethinking Psychiatry: From Cultural Category to Personal Experience (Free Press, 1970)〔江口重幸ほか訳、みすず書房、2012〕、Patients and healers in the context of culture (University of California Press、1980)〔大橋英寿ほか訳『臨床人類学──文化のなかの病者と治療者』弘文堂、1992〕、The Illness Narratives: suffering、healing、and the human condition (Basic Books、1988)〔江口重幸ほか訳『病いの語り──慢性の病いをめぐる医療人類学』誠信書房、1996〕ほか。また、Social Suffering (University of California Press、1997)〔坂川雅子訳『他者の苦しみへの責任』みすず書房、2011〕をはじめ編著多数。最近作はWhat Really Matters: Living a Moral Life Amidst Uncertainty and Danger (Oxford University Press、2006)〔皆藤章監訳『八つの人生の物語』誠信書房、2011〕。アメリカ医療人類学会からは、2006年のLifetime Achievement Award、2008年のGeorge Foster Awardなど、受賞多数。
