1972年ハーバード大学博士課程修了、Ph.D.現在　ミシガン大学ディアボン校教授。著書　Reform in China:Huang Tsun-hsien and the Japanese Model（Harvard East Asian Monograph,Council on East Asian Studies,Harvard University,1981）.Japanese Studies of Modern China Since 1953:a Bobliographical Guide to HIstorical and Social Sience Research on the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries（フェアバンク・市古宙三と共著、East asian Reseach Center,Harverd Univercity,1975）。
