S・C・M・ペイン

アメリカ海軍大学校教授。1979年ハーヴァード大学卒業後、コロンビア大学国際公共政策大学院（国際関係論）とミドルベリー大学（ロシア研究）で修士号、コロンビア大学文理大学院（歴史学）で博士号を取得。著書にImperial Rivals: China, Russia, and Their Disputed Frontier, 1858-1924 (M.E. Sharpe, 1996), The Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895: Perceptions, Power, and Primacy (Cambridge University Press, 2003), The Wars for Asia 1911-1949 (Cambridge University Press, 2012〔『アジアの多重戦争1911-1949』荒川憲一監訳、江戸伸禎訳、みすず書房〕), The Japanese Empire: Grand Strategy from the Meiji Restoration to the Pacific War (Cambridge University Press, 2017) などがある。
